Sophie Sheehan

One of the greatest attractions of working with glass is its ever-changing interaction with light, which is influenced by a range of conditions: location, weather, seasons, viewpoint and the passing of time. This flexible quality renders it an ideal medium for Sophie to explore her interests in natural transitions, metamorphoses, memory and boundaries, and how these are measured, classified, recorded and perceived by humans over time.

Sophie’s current practice focuses on the creation of fused glass panels and objects. Her methods enhance the texture and shape of the glass in different ways. She is interested in how inclusions within the glass and impressions on the surface enable the viewer to interact with her work – particularly in a changing environment of light and shadow.
